Hello! Sorry to ping you again after already hitting you up yesterday, but I have a huuuuuuuuuge somethin’ special here that I would love to share with you. I’ve written twelve (not counting the post I made public) bonus posts for Patreon over the past six months, and I will continue posting them there for those of you who prefer to use Patreon. But since so many of you are Substack devotees, I wanted to offer the bonus posts in this feed as well. Three important notes:
The posts are technically behind a $5 paywall, the minimum Substack would let me put down for a monthly subscription, but at this here link, you can access an indefinite $2/month or $20/year subscription through some tricky discount mischief I pulled off. If you can afford to pay the $5 (or more!) please do so, I am trying to make fashion writing my livelihood and it’s rough out here, but the $2 subscription (or even simply reading and sharing these posts) means just as much to me.
There will be minimum two bonus posts per month and I promise to make them as juicy and meaty (mmm) as I can.
The entire backlog of the twelve past bonus posts is below! You’ll have to view it on your browser. If this is inconvenient, please email me at hr@humanrepeller.com and I will send you the original PDFs. Here is the “chapter list”:
#1: Writing, For You, in a Queer Fashion

#1: Writing, For You, in a Queer Fashion
Thank you so much for supporting the Human Repeller Patreon! I’m truly honored that you’re here, whether just to support my endeavors or because you like my style or writing or you have a creepy, Machiavellian reason to give me a few bucks a month. It’s all appreciated, deeply.
This is the first of the two bonus posts you will receive in your inbox for the month of July. These bonus posts might be longer-form, more personal, or more niche than the usual HR pieces, and this one is all three! I hope you enjoy these open-ended thoughts on my gender and how it relates to my style, with some suggestions at the end as to how to dress in a way that resists dysphoria. Some of these thoughts or suggestions may be obvious, but it’s helpful to me to see them in writing, and maybe it will be generative for some of you.
Note: I tend to use clunky neologisms and totally inappropriate suffixes in my writing, in case you haven't noticed yet, and there may well be typos in here, as this is a one-person operation. Hope that doesn't ruin your day!
I have been reckoning a lot lately with the way I want to be seen, what those desires mean about the legitimacy of my gender identity, and how this all connects with my obsession over wearing the Right Clothes for any given moment. I started identifying as non-binary just over a year ago, in May of 2021, the day after watching the entirety of the anime series Given, a staggeringly sweet show about a few duos of boys and young men who fall in love with each other while connecting over a shared love of guitar.
