The girlfriend collective collars are bonkers. I looked at that detachable hood one for so long…. Thinking maybe you’re supposed to tuck the bottom shoulder part into the sweatshirt… but then why the drawstring? I hate it. But good for them for trying something, I guess????
I think it's genuinely supposed to be worn like that, executioner's hood-style?? five years ago I would have been stoked to see experimentation like this but I can't shake the feeling that it's AI-designed T_T
Oh god, as I keep reading, I keep wanting to comment more! I love that you mentioned Tessa Perlow’s embroidery- I adore it and have deffffinitely fantasized that I too could accomplish something similar (my dexterity and patience levels are so poor haha).
And those Girlfriend Collective items— what?! Thank you for sharing one of the most inexplicable garments I’ve seen in a long time. I’ve really enjoyed my GC basics I bought in 2020, but these are not the right side of innovative… also thank you for always sharing such an interesting perspective on a wide variety of topics within fashion!
I can so get behind the haunted doll hanging from your bag as a protective amulet. There is a plethora of neglected old dolls in the world and they are certainly waiting for their new owner (who they well protect with a vengeance lol)
I am tentatively pro the cut-brim hats, though I do not know if they would work on me particularly, and I’m afraid that I would regret cutting a cap that I would otherwise wear, only for it to get neglected in my closet.
I’m a Houstonian, and you’ve solved a mild curiosity I had about the building that is apparently owned by Glass Cypress! Definitely didn’t expect it to pop up here in your Substack. It’s exciting to hear about a Houston brand here!
Waiting to see if anyone responds to the Girlfriend Collective inquiry. I remember seeing these and not knowing how they would be styled and by whom. But I am curious!
Esque, this was such a fun read! The cut brims are silly, but sure - you won't be seeing me wearing that (not a fan of ball caps in general, although I have one token hat). The weird attached stuff at the collar - the fake scarf, the giant collars (also rolling my eyes at the zip not going all the way, so cheap), and those goofy dolls. I love the idea of buying an old doll, but it's not my vibe.
I would rather see things that people (or small businesses) have upcycled themselves than a company doing "performative" things like patchwork or embroidery as part of new clothes.
liked for "Lajuju"
That haunted doll is amazing.

I ... kind of like the scarf ones!
Glass Cypress is sooooo much cooler than Bode!!!!

“this materialism’s gotta get a bit dialectical” cracked me up!
I am curious about the inside-out jeans. I love fashion that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
haunted dolls! haunted dolls! /banging on table/
